Welcome to my site! I am Robin Blakney-Carlson
, a feltmaker, instructor and fiber artist.
I’ve been fascinated with exploring the textile arts since I was a girl. I was a serious handspinner for twenty years before I was introduced to the real art of feltmaking by my sister Polly Stirling around 1994. Polly and her assistant Sachiko Kotaka developed the technique they coined “nuno felt”, an innovative method for combining fabric and fiber to create felt with lightweight, drapeable characteristics. Polly has been an incredibly creative and generous feltmaker and teacher. I have worked extensively with her as my mentor, and with a number of other internationally known feltmakers. I intend to keep learning new skills and exploring the unlimited potential of felt as a medium. I encourage my students to do the same.
